Ministry of Agriculture Intensification of Swamp Land to Rice Fields of 30 Thousand Ha
Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo said the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) would intensify swampland into productive rice fields covering an area of 30 thousand hectares (ha) in Central Kalimantan this year.

"So as to be able to increase productivity and prepare food reserves, especially the World Food and Agriculture Agency (FAO) has warned that there will be a drought which will lead to a potential food crisis," he said, as quoted by Antara. The Minister of Agriculture explained that the government will use a total of 164,598 hectares of swamp land in Central Kalimantan as rice fields to increase crop productivity in an effort to maintain food security. Of the total land area, there is intensification land or existing (existing) land but still requires the assistance of production facilities (saprodi). Its productivity increases to an area of 85,456. Meanwhile, extensification land is a new expansion area that still requires cultivation by printing new rice fields. covering an area of 79,142 hectares. This land already has a primary and secondary irrigation system. "The intervention is possible in 2021. We have 30 thousand hectares ready for intervention," said the Minister of Agriculture. The Minister of Agriculture explained that this year the government will focus on intensifying 30 thousand ha of land, due to the limited budget of the Ministry of Agriculture, which experienced a cut of up to IDR 7 trillion for the reallocation of the COVID-19 handling program. The cost required for the utilization of swamp land into productive rice fields is IDR 5.44 million per hectare, so the total budget requirement for the plan is IDR 2.55 trillion.
