Where is Indonesian Palm Oil Produced from?
Most of the largest oil palm producing areas in Indonesia are located on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan.
Tropical climate conditions in these areas are very suitable for oil palm cultivation. Launching the IDX Channel page, here are the five largest palm oil producing provinces in Indonesia, which are located on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan. 1. Riau Riau has about 2,806,349 hectares of oil palm land. With an area that exceeds a quarter of the area of Riau Province, these oil palm plantations can produce as much as 9.5 million tons of oil palm annually. 2. North Sumatra The area of oil palm plantations in North Sumatra reached 1,773,049 hectares in 2019. This area has increased quite significantly compared to 2016 which only reached 1,342,523 hectares. Oil palm plantations in North Sumatra could produce more than 5.6 million tonnes of palm oil in 2019. 3. West Kalimantan Oil palm plantations in West Kalimantan have existed since the 1980s and are managed by PTPN XIII. The area of oil palm plantations in West Kalimantan reached 1,570,675 hectares in 2019 and produced at least 5.2 million tonnes of oil palm.
