Waiting for the Restriction of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) to be Continued
The government decided to extend the application of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) after conducting an in-depth evaluation of the implementation of the previous policy.
The PPKM extension was announced directly by President Joko Widodo through the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube channel. This time the government no longer uses the term Emergency PPKM, but only refers to the policy as PPKM. In his statement, the Head of State said that if the trend of adding Covid-19 cases continued to decline, the government would ease it gradually. "We always monitor, understand the dynamics in the field and listen to the voices of the people affected by PPKM," said the President. Related to this, the government will allow traditional markets that sell basic daily needs until 20.00, while those that do not sell basic needs until 15.00. Both with a maximum capacity of 50%. The government has prepared an additional social protection budget of IDR 55.21 trillion. The government also provides incentives for informal micro-enterprises worth IDR 1.2 million for around 1 million micro-enterprises. General Chairperson of the Indonesian Employers' Association Hariyadi B. Sukamdani appreciated the easing given by the government in extending the PPKM. However, he stressed the importance of consistency in terms of handling Covid-19. "Treatment related to 3T needs to be the focus because in recent times the national death case has been high."
