Kemenkominfo Starts Preparing Frequency For 5G
The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) has conducted an initial study of the roadmap and has begun to prepare a radio frequency spectrum for the implementation of 5G cellular telecommunications services in Indonesia.
In addition to utilizing the existing frequencies that are still used for 4G, telecommunication operators will later be able to utilize the frequencies of 700 MHz, 2.6 GHz, 3.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz, as well as 26 and 28 GHz for 5G utilization. The Coordinator of Radio Telecommunication Standards at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Indra Utama, said that the frequency spectrum used by telecommunications operators for the current 5G implementation starting in 2021 is still at the existing frequency which is also used for 4G LTE services. They use the frequencies of 450 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.3 GHz. Utilization of these frequencies for 5G is carried out by utilizing the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) and Carrier Aggregation (CA) features.
