Become the Main Role of the Agricultural Sector, 70 Percent of Indonesian Palm Products Circulate in the Global Scene
As many as 70 percent of Indonesian palm products have been circulating in the global market.
This makes palm oil one of the main figures from the agricultural sector in Indonesia's economic activity. Director General of Plantation Processing and Marketing of the Ministry of Agriculture Dedi Junaedi said the agricultural sector was still growing during the pandemic, one of which was thanks to palm oil. "Earlier in 2020, the Indonesian economy contracted by 2.07 percent. In the midst of the economic contraction, the agricultural sector could still grow positively by 1.75 percent, with palm oil being one of the main contributors," said Dedi in a virtual discussion. Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Towards International Recognition, In the same year, the export performance of palm oil increased by 13.6 percent. This achievement is expected to trigger the motivation of oil palm plantation managers. "In the last few months, palm oil producers have enjoyed the highest prices in the last decade. Hopefully this will be a motivation for oil palm plantation managers to improve their management," added Dedi. Dedi assessed that the performance of palm oil was good enough so that its competitiveness must be maintained and improved. The management of sustainable oil palm plantations must continue to be improved, one of which is through strengthening ISPO certification regulations.
