Prevent Forest Fires, Ministry of Environment and Forestry Gets Rp500 Billion

President Joko Widodo's order regarding law enforcement in cases of forest and land fires was welcomed by various parties. Yesterday, Commission IV of the DPR RI immediately approved the addition of the budget ceiling for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry this year amounting to Rp500 billion.

We ask the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to submit a report on the results of the law enforcement process for crimes against forest and environmental destruction during the 2015-2019 period. The report also includes the amount of compensation fines deposited in the state treasury. The head of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency, Commissioner General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, admitted that he had been assigned by the National Police Chief, General Idham Azis, to immediately enforce the law in cases of forest and land fires. "The National Police will resolve all cases and coordinate with the prosecutor's office. The perpetrators should receive the maximum punishment. In a number of areas prone to forest and land fires, prevention efforts have been launched. South Sumatra has declared a smoke disaster emergency alert status since May 20. We have mobilized equipment and personnel. The role of the Forest Management Unit (KPH) is prioritized, said the Head of the South Sumatra Forest and Land Fire Control Section, Syafrul Yunardy. The Riau Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Agung Setia Imam Effendi, also confirmed that the joint team to tackle forest and land fires was already working.
